I’m doing a lot of research on 20% time/ Genius Hour / Passion Projects, whatever you’d like to call it. More or less that time you dedicate to something you WANT to learn. I’d like to use it as a way to do professional development, specifically with teachers.
In the course of my search, I found this great quote by Steve Jobs, “If you are working on something exciting that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed, the vision pulls you”. What a true statement! I can go on a very unproductive day, or even week for that matter, but if I find something that piques my interest, I’ll get lost in it for hours.
So, why not use this as a way to educate? Use this as a way to inspire? Use this as a way to ignite a fire? I have been trying for a couple of years now to find a self-driven professional development option that I can get behind. None have really been, what I felt was, sustainable…..or interesting for that matter. I feel like Genius Hour can be that. A way to take a thought and spend your time exploring it.
And so, off I go…..on my own passion project! I’ll be working to create a PD curriculum for 20% time/ Genius Hour / Passion Projects specifically relating to the technology world…..and for us in NC, the Digital Learning Competencies. Thoughts? Ideas you want to share to help me in my journey? Send me a note!
